The regular season is over & 20 teams are already done for the year… Now the REAL games begin and the Steelers are headed to the Mile High City for a showdown with the Broncos and their miracle man Tim Tebow. Even though they are only 8-8 and have lost their last 3 games, road playoff games are tough, the Steelers are banged up and Denver has numerous playmakers.
That said, Defensive Player of the Week Troy Polamalu looks as good as ever and is heading up a unit that yielded fewer yards & points per game than last year’s Super Bowl squad and team MVP Antonio Brown is turning into a superstar playmaker in front of our eyes. If the Steelers play smart football there is no reason they can’t advance to the next round.
As we always do during playoff games, we will have a Jersey Raffle this weekend. We have restocked our inventory & the winners will be able to choose from over 40 jerseys. Also, in honor of another Steelers playoff appearance and not one but TWO big milestones in last week’s game, this week’s trivia question is very easy. Be sure to play so you have a chance to win free food. More info about the trivia questions and both the halftime & jersey raffles can be found in the This Week at The Bar section.
One thing we at SFOM know we get during the playoffs is big, enthusiastic crowds. In fact we have averaged over 440 people for the 6 playoffs games since moving to McGovern’s and this year will likely bring more of the same. We will work with McGovern’s to help everyone have a great time by having TVs tuned to the game on both the main level & our regular home upstairs but we’ll still need your help to make things go really smoothly. If you haven’t used all of the seats at your table, please be the welcoming Steelers fans we know & love by inviting others to join you - every seat will eventually be filled so why not pick your tablemates?
SFOM’s Seating Policy: We’ve had some questions regarding the “Reserved” signs used for some of the bar seats and tables, and wanted to share the policy behind this practice. We know that the saving and holding of seats got somewhat out of hand last year during the playoffs, so a revised approach was developed during the off season. This year, we are only reserving space for people who volunteer their time for certain SFOM tasks, such as organizing and helping with prizes, food drive & raffle assistance, running the website, working the door throughout the season, etc. The reserved seats are in exchange for a lot of time, hard work and dedication that those people give to make SFOM run smoothly. At most only twelve seats at the bar and 8 tables are held, and frequently the number is less when people are absent. In addition, people with reserved seats are not allowed to save additional places, and neither is anyone on staff at McGovern's.
People with reserved seats have to claim them within approx. 30 minutes of the doors opening. Our Seating Coordinator Jen Lubow monitors this each week and removes the reserved signs from unclaimed tables / seats and they are then available for anyone to use. When crowds have been lighter we have been somewhat flexible about the timing during the regular season, but we plan to stick to that window more closely during the playoffs.
At the beginning of our last two playoff runs one of our SFOM members provided a great quote that is just as applicable today as it was then…“This is the best time to come to McGovern's and cheer on the Steelers. It's intense because it's "win or go home". Bring your friends and/or family and get the foundation shaking with woo-hoo-ing and high-fiving. WE WANT TO GET FLAGGED FOR EXCESSIVE CELEBRATION!”
See ALL Yinz Guys on Sunday .Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!
