The NFL Plays on New Year's Day & We Need a Win to Hit the Playoffs in Full Stride

Who the heck was that 37 year old guy ducking out of sacks, throwing a 47 yard completion to Wallace & leading the team up & down the field all day?  Major props to Homestead’s own Charlie Batch who did a great job filling in and leading the Steelers to a 27-0 win!  Add to that Mendenhall breaking 100 yards for only the 2nd time this year and Essex stepping in as our 3rd string center without bobbling a single snap and this was a pretty impressive effort regardless of the opponent.

Next up is a Cleveland Browns team that gave the Steelers all they could handle in week 13 and knocked both Ben & Pouncey out.  However, the NFL has set things up so the Steelers won’t know their fate prior to kickoff so they need to play to win the game in hopes that the Bengals can punch their own ticket to the post season and at the same time give our favorite team a bye while making the Ravens two wins over the Steelers meaningless - how fun would that be!

As a reminder, the NFL also did a favor for all you New Year’s Eve partiers by moving the game back to a 3:15 PM start so you can “sleep it off” and still make it to McGovern’s by kickoff.  We had a great crowd of over 150 on Christmas Eve and we’re hoping for an even bigger one this week.  The game won’t be on local TV so if you stay home all you’ll see is Tebow-mania.

Playoffs Note:  To help you plan, we will send out a quick e-mail with door opening & kickoff times as soon as we learn when the Steelers first playoff game is.

Join us Sunday to cheer for the Steelers (and Bengals) and have a great time celebrating New Year’s Day with hundreds of other fans. Go Steelers!
