Well… we’re a week removed from a sudden & painful end to the Steelers season and quite frankly it doesn’t feel much better than it did last Sunday.
On one hand Tebow-mania came crashing to earth in Foxboro on Saturday and the media’s latest darling dynasty team proved that even a 15-1 record doesn’t mean you’ll win back to back titles if you don’t win the post season. On the other hand Steelers fans will have to suffer through an AFC Championship between the two teams we despise the most - heavy sigh!!
Even so, I’m proud of our team and wouldn’t want to be a fan of other team.
By the time the game ended in Denver, they were without Pouncey, Mendenhall, Colon, Starks and Moore on offense and Hampton, Keisel, Aaron Smith, Hoke and Ryan Clark on D and Sepulveda on Special Teams. Add to that the fact that Big Ben and Woodley were playing with injuries that significantly limited their effectiveness the 2nd half of the season and almost every other starter missed at least part of a game due to injury and it’s hard not to be impressed with how much they accomplished.
Of course we all know that success in Da Burgh is measured in Lombardi trophies but our favorite team still managed to win 12 games despite all of the hurdles placed in front of them. If there is a silver lining to the season it’s that the injuries gave us a glimpse of the future and guys like 2011 draft choices Marcus Gilbert & Cam Heyward and second half emergence of team MVP Antonio Brown give us a lot of reason to be optimistic.
We are in the process of putting together the end of year wrap up and thank yous and will send them out shortly after the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, be sure to mark Thursday, April 26th on the calendar as we’ll be gathering for the first round of the draft to see who the Steelers will add next.
