Jimmy “The Spoons” 'Post-Game'

Picture of Jimmy and AnitaThe SFOM has sad news to report. Longtime member Jimmy “The Spoons” Phelan passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side. One of the longest tenured members of the SFOM, Jimmy always entertained our group with his playing of the spoons alongside the Steelers Polka at the beginning of every game. He was also responsible for putting together the weekly trivia question, with the winner receiving a free appetizer. Jimmy did a great job with the trivia: never too hard for the novices and never too easy for the experts, and there was always a good chance you learned something new. He was able to work William “Bill” Shakespeare into a trivia question once. Brilliant! Terry Bradshaw recently offered a video message of support for our beloved Jimmy.

After serving our country in the Army in Massachusetts and Germany, Jimmy and his lovely wife Anita came to the Twin Cities. They were both long-time fixtures at the SFOM, along with their seatmates Norma and Mike Muehlbauer. Talk about how Steeler clubs bring people together: Mike and Jimmy were both from the Carrick neighborhood of Pittsburgh and did not meet each other until the SFOM!

The SFOM will make a memorial contribution to the VA, per Jimmy’s wishes. If you would like to send a card to Anita and the family, you can send them to:

1012 94th Avenue
Coon Rapids, MN 55433

Rest in Peace Jimmy. We know you have your seat and spoons waiting for you, and you are ready to watch Steelers football!
